Mellanox Introduces ECF Technology To Boost the Performance of Its Etherent Switches

Understanding the relevance of Ethernet in the data centres Mellanox an established name in the world of Ethernet Interconnect Solution has introduced Ethernet Cloud Fabric Technology (ECF) in the fleet of new switches developed by it.  The use of new technology will facilitate in improving the data transfer speed which at the present is 100/200/400 Gb/s, by making use of existing Spectrum-2 Ethernet switches.

By making use of new technology the data centres will be able to forward the data at the speed of 8.33 billion packets per second by making use of Ethernet Storage Fabric technology. The use of new technology helps in improving the processing of critical applications including machine learning, artifical intelligence and edge computing. Moving ahead, the new technology offers robust solution to public Ethernet platforms and network operating systems like Mellanox Onyx, Cumulus Linux, etc. In short, it can be said that the introduction of new ECF technology will further enhance the functionality of Mellanox’s product.

Understanding the basic difference between Mellanox’s Spectrum 2 Family and Ethernet Cloud Fabric Technology: The Spectrum 2 Family Ethernet switches offered by the Mellanox are based on ASICs that are high performing. The use of these switches allows the data centres to minimize the power consumption, enjoy low latency rate, thus strengthening the total cost of ownership. On the other side the use of later technology allows the data centres to optimize their network and speed the critical workloads. The switches embellished with ECF technology are offered in spine, super-spine and leaf factors.

More about Ethernet Cloud Fabric Technology: The use of new technology is believed to boost the functionality of existing Spectrum Ethernet switches that are being used by huge data centers throughout the world. The use of new feature will facilitate the IT managers to improve the performance and ability of data centers from 10GbE and higher, and smoothly and economically shift from 10 to 25, 50 and 100 Gb/s speeds without any complexity.

The other features of this new feature are referred below:
1. Data transfer at the speed of 8.33 billion packets per second;
2. 42 MB Monolithic and fully shared packet buffer to offer high performance bandwith with low latency;
3. Half a million flexible forwarding entries for supporting Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks;
4. 128 way ECMT;
5. Network Address Translation based on Hardware;
6. 500K+Access Control List entries for micro segmentation and cloud based whitelist policies;
7. 500K+VXLAN tunnels, 10K+VXLAN VTEPs to offer free network virtualization.

The switches with new technical feature offered are believed to be available by Mellanox UK Reseller in coming months.
